Recycled Materials - Hugelkultur Bed

A quick tutorial on making your own hugelkultur with materials you might already have in your back yards! There's so much info out there on the proper ratios of logs to sticks to grass but ultimately I wanted to show that if you follow the general rules of layering you don't really need to worry about that. I made this bed out of the rotted logs, sticks, grass clippings and oil soil that were readily available and the bed has exploded with vibrant plant life a little over a month later. Note that during the historic Seattle heat wave in June the plants in the hugel beds wilted less and needed less water than the other regular raised beds in the veggie patch.
